A tragic incident unfolded at a wedding celebration in Pakistan as a gas cylinder explosion resulted in the loss of at least eight lives, including the newlywed couple. The devastating blast occurred during the reception held at a residence in the capital city of Islamabad, leading to the collapse of a portion of the building and leaving seven individuals injured.
The explosion took place in a residential neighborhood in the city center, prompting authorities to initiate an investigation into its cause. Deputy Commissioner General Sahibzada Yousaf confirmed the completion of the rescue operation, ensuring that no individuals were trapped beneath the debris. Search efforts, aided by sniffer dogs, were instrumental in locating all victims.
Yousaf stated, “Three houses were completely destroyed, with a fourth sustaining partial damage. Inspection of adjacent structures is underway to mitigate further risks.” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed sorrow over the tragic loss and extended condolences to the bereaved families. He instructed health officials to provide optimal care for the injured and called for a comprehensive inquiry. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the families of the deceased.
In Pakistan, many households rely on liquefied petroleum gas cylinders due to inadequate natural gas pressure, leading to incidents of gas leaks and subsequent accidents. Ongoing investigations by the police are focusing on the circumstances surrounding the explosion and its connection to the gas cylinder.
