A man has pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to animals and committing fraud after authorities discovered 37 deceased dogs at a property in Crays Hill, Billericay. Oaveed Rahman, 26, admitted the charges at Basildon Crown Court, which included mistreatment of 21 dogs and a cat, as well as 11 counts of fraud by false representation.
The investigation unfolded when a joint team of officers, RSPCA officials, and Basildon Council staff uncovered the distressing scene last May. Inspector Steve Parry of Basildon Neighbourhood Policing Team expressed understanding for the community’s concerns, emphasizing the appalling treatment of the animals by Rahman and his deceitful actions in soliciting funds for their care.
Rahman, a resident of Crays Hill, is set to be sentenced on February 20 after being in custody since his arrest. Inspector Parry commended the public for their assistance in the case, noting the crucial role their information played in securing the conviction.
