“Ex-Soldier Jailed for Petrol Bomb Attack on Police Station”

A former British Army soldier has been sentenced for carrying out a violent petrol bomb attack on a police station. Jamie Taylor, aged 34, pleaded guilty to charges related to explosive substances and endangering life, citing his struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder following his service in Afghanistan.

In a disturbing incident in May 2025, Taylor armed himself with petrol-filled vodka bottles and targeted Livingston Police Station in West Lothian. He threw lit petrol bombs at police vans parked outside, endangering the lives of officers present. Despite not directly aiming at her, one explosive thrown by Taylor caused flames to rise above a police officer’s head.

Having admitted his actions in court, Taylor was handed a three-year and six-month prison sentence, accompanied by a 12-month supervision order. The judge emphasized the severity of Taylor’s actions, highlighting the danger he had put the officer in and stressing the need for supervision and support due to his complex PTSD.

Taylor’s defense lawyer explained that his client, who had served in the military and experienced traumatic events, had struggled with mental health issues that contributed to his criminal behavior. The lawyer stated that Taylor’s actions were not a targeted assault and were influenced by a combination of factors, including his mental health struggles and a sense of grievance.

In light of the circumstances, Taylor has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for his actions.
