A convict serving an open-ended sentence for causing grievous bodily harm has fled from a prison in Derbyshire, triggering an extensive search operation. The escapee, Ethan Black, aged 36, evaded custody at HMP Sudbury on the evening of December 17 by scaling a perimeter fence. Having been incarcerated since 2006, Black was handed an indeterminate sentence for a section 18 GBH offense at Warrington Crown Court.
Indeterminate sentences have no fixed release date and are imposed when the court deems an individual to pose a continued threat to public safety. Descriptions of Black indicate he is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, slender, with brown hair, blue eyes, and a notable “EFC” tattoo on his right arm.
Authorities have highlighted Black’s connections to various areas including Widnes in Cheshire, Dudley, Liverpool, Grimsby, and Hastings. The public is urged not to approach him but to report any sightings or information to Derbyshire Constabulary through their website, Facebook page, or by dialing 101. Alternatively, individuals can provide anonymous tips to the independent charity CrimeStoppers at 0800 555 111 or via the CrimeStoppers website.
