Canadian runner Gabriela DeBues-Stafford continues to make her mark on Athletics Canada’s record books. She set a new record at the Jarrow 10-kilometre road race in England, finishing in 31 minutes 37.8 seconds, surpassing Lynn Williams’ previous record set in 1989. DeBues-Stafford also established a new course record at the Jarrow 10K, beating the previous record set by Sophie Hicks in 2025. Her closest competitor, Rose Harvey, finished second with a time of 34:10.
DeBues-Stafford had previously set a Canadian indoor record in the 5,000 metres in 2022. She holds multiple Canadian indoor and outdoor track records in events such as the 1,500 metres, mile, 5,000 metres, and indoor 3,000 metres.
The Jarrow race took place on a flat, two-lap course ending at Monkton Stadium. Earlier in the year, she secured her third consecutive 5,000m title at the Canadian track and field championships in Ottawa. DeBues-Stafford also competed in the Commonwealth Games in Scotland, finishing 14th in the 5,000 metres.
After wrapping up her track season, she participated in the British Milers Club Grand Prix in Twickenham and the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen. DeBues-Stafford expressed her gratitude for competing at a world championship event and shared her plans for upcoming 10K road races in the UK and potential races in the following months.
