A tragic incident occurred at Osoyoos, B.C., where a harness racing driver lost his life in a multi-horse collision at Desert Park Raceway. The driver, identified as 52-year-old Scott Knight, passed away following the crash that took place on Sunday.
The raceway reported that the collision unfolded when a horse unrelated to Knight’s racehorse stumbled and fell on the track, causing subsequent horses and drivers to collide. While one driver required hospitalization for medical attention, another was treated on-site for minor injuries. Fortunately, the three horses involved in the accident survived.
Kelly MacMillan, president of the Western Canada Horse Racing Association and operator of Desert Park Raceway, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Knight as an integral part of their racing community. MacMillan extended condolences and support to Knight’s family and all affected individuals.
In response to the tragedy, Desert Park Raceway halted the day’s racing events and made arrangements for counseling services to assist the community during this challenging time.
