Connor McDavid’s stellar performance led the Edmonton Oilers to a convincing 4-1 victory over the struggling Los Angeles Kings. McDavid showcased his skills with a goal and two assists in an electrifying first period, setting the tone for his four-point night.
Vasily Podkolzin contributed two goals, while Leon Draisaitl added another goal to secure the win for the Oilers. Goaltender Devon Levi stood tall with 39 saves, extending the Oilers’ winning streak to five games. The team has been on fire, scoring at least three goals in each of their six games this season.
McDavid’s dominance was on full display as he notched his 33rd career period with at least three points, achieving this feat in the first period for the 10th time. With a total of 16 points in the season so far, McDavid continues to prove why he is a six-time Art Ross Trophy winner.
Despite outshooting the Oilers 40-16, the Kings struggled to capitalize on their opportunities. Brandt Clarke managed to score the lone goal for the Kings, who fell to a 0-3-2 record under new head coach Peter Laviolette.
The Oilers’ success has been remarkable, even in the absence of key players like Zach Hyman and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Evan Bouchard stood out with two assists, contributing to the team’s strong start.
Edmonton took an early lead with goals from Draisaitl and Podkolzin, with McDavid’s highlight-reel goal capping off a dominant first period. The Kings made a goaltending change, replacing Darcy Kuemper with Anton Forsberg for the second period.
Although Clarke managed to score for the Kings late in the second period, it was not enough to mount a comeback. McDavid and Draisaitl combined to set up Podkolzin’s empty-net goal, sealing the Oilers’ victory.
The Oilers will look to continue their winning streak as they face off against the Utah Mammoth in their next game. Los Angeles and Philadelphia remain the only winless teams in the NHL as they strive to turn their seasons around.
