Montreal’s La Ronde amusement park has decided to temporarily close one of its popular rides following a tragic incident at a Six Flags park in Georgia, U.S., where one person lost their life and others were injured on a roller-coaster.
The ride involved in the fatal accident has been identified by various media outlets as the Goliath. Local TV stations aired footage of passengers being evacuated from the roller-coaster, as reported by the Associated Press.
As a precautionary measure, Montreal’s own Goliath rollercoaster was shut down on Tuesday, with a La Ronde spokesperson stating that the ride will remain closed until further instructions are received from the manufacturer.
Although Six Flags no longer owns La Ronde, it was previously responsible for managing the park’s attractions, including the Goliath, until the park was acquired by EPR Properties earlier this year.
Following the incident, Six Flags took the step of temporarily closing nine roller-coasters across six amusement parks on Monday.
Carole Bricault, La Ronde’s director of communications, expressed deep condolences to all those impacted by the tragic incident at Six Flags Over Georgia.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of death of the individual or the conditions of those injured at the park. Investigations are being carried out by detectives from the Cobb County Police Department major crimes unit.
