Guardians Secure Comeback Win, Advance to AL Championship

Gavin Williams showcased an impressive performance with 12 strikeouts, while José Ramirez hit a homer on a unique pitch angle to lead the Cleveland Guardians to a 2-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night. This win marked a remarkable comeback for the Guardians after initially trailing 0-2 in the best-of-five AL Division Series.

Next, Cleveland is set to face Tampa Bay in the AL Championship Series on Monday night as they aim to secure their first World Series appearance since 2016. The Guardians organization has not clinched a World Series title since 1948, making it the longest-standing drought among all MLB teams.

In a remarkable feat, Gavin Williams, who had previously secured the save in Game 4, became only the third pitcher in postseason history to record the final out of a game and then start the subsequent game when facing elimination in both matches. Williams maintained a no-hit performance until Kyle Teel broke the streak with a hit in the sixth inning, following Ramirez’s two-run homer off Sean Burke earlier in the game.
