“Poilievre Rejects Elon Musk’s Call for Province Breakaway”

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has disregarded tech mogul Elon Musk’s recent suggestions for Quebec, Alberta, and Saskatchewan to break away from Canada, asserting that “Canadians have the ultimate say in their own future.”

“I believe we should not be overly concerned with frivolous tweets from individuals who hold no sway over Canadian decisions,” Poilievre remarked in Burlington on Friday. “Canadians have the power to determine their own path.”

Poilievre emphasized the need to address pressing issues affecting Canadians, such as the cost of groceries, housing, and their economic well-being. He stated, “In reality, people can post whatever they please. However, Canada is shaped by the choices made by its citizens.”

Elon Musk’s remarks, made in response to a post about Parti Québécois premier-designate Paul St-Pierre Plamondon’s aspirations for Quebec independence, advocated for the separation of Quebec, Alberta, and Saskatchewan from Canada.

Prime Minister Mark Carney refuted Musk’s comments during a news conference in Sherbrooke, Quebec, underscoring that “the fate of Canada will be determined by Canadians and their priorities, including those of the people of Quebec.”

Carney outlined his government’s objectives to foster a robust Quebec and Canada, leading to greater sovereignty and prosperity. He stressed the importance of Canadians being able to live freely, respecting their language, culture, and way of life without interference from foreign entities or tech giants.

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe succinctly responded to Musk’s idea with a straightforward “No.”

This is not Musk’s first foray into Canadian politics. In the past, he publicly endorsed Pierre Poilievre, lauding his speeches and media engagements. Musk also ridiculed former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau upon his resignation.

Musk’s involvement in German politics, where he has supported the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) leader Alice Weidel, a staunch critic of multiculturalism, has sparked controversy. Despite some AfD members facing backlash for failing to denounce Nazi war crimes, Musk continues to back the party.

Overall, the focus remains on Canadian sovereignty and the decisions made by its people, as articulated by political leaders in response to Musk’s recent statements.
