In a recent auction held in July, a lightsaber associated with Luke Skywalker’s iconic severed hand scene from the movie “The Empire Strikes Back” was sold for a record-breaking $3.75 million USD. This sale marked the highest price ever achieved for a prop used in any “Star Wars” film, as reported by the auction house.
Adding to the excitement, a lightsaber wielded by Darth Vader during the memorable duel at Cloud City, where he reveals the famous line “I am your father” to Skywalker, is set to be a star attraction at the upcoming Ultimate Star Wars Auction by Heritage Auctions on November 12. This lightsaber, featured in “Return of the Jedi” as well, is anticipated to fetch a minimum of $1 million USD. The auction will showcase over twenty lightsaber props spanning across the entire “Star Wars” saga, including Episodes I to IX, along with props from other productions within George Lucas’s galaxy.
Among the items up for grabs are the lightsabers used by Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker in “Revenge of the Sith,” each expected to sell for at least $10,000 USD. Additionally, an EE-3 carbine blaster utilized by Boba Fett in “The Empire Strikes Back” is estimated to attract bids exceeding $100,000 USD.
The auction catalog also includes unique pieces such as a Yoda puppet hand operated by Frank Oz in “The Empire Strikes Back,” actor Anthony Daniels’ signed personal screenplay draft for the original 1977 “Star Wars,” and a TIE Fighter pilot helmet from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”
