“OPP Charges Two NAPS Officers with Fraud”

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has apprehended and filed charges against two officers affiliated with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) for incidents that occurred while on duty. The NAPS chief of police requested an investigation by the OPP on October 8, 2025, following allegations against two NAPS members, as stated in an OPP news release on Tuesday. The inquiry was initiated by the OPP professional standards unit.

Dylan Anderson, aged 25 from Thunder Bay, was arrested by the OPP on September 22 and charged with fraud exceeding $5,000 and breach of trust by a public officer. Subsequently, Michael McInnis, aged 32 from Murillo in the Thunder Bay district, was also arrested six days later and faced similar charges of fraud over $5,000 and breach of trust by a public officer. Both Anderson and McInnis have been released from custody and are set to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on December 16.

In response to inquiries by CBC News regarding the employment status of the accused, NAPS confirmed that the officers are suspended pending the outcome of the legal proceedings. NAPS media relations co-ordinator Scott Paradis stated that further details would need to be obtained from the OPP, the conducting agency of the investigation. NAPS operates as the largest Indigenous police force in Canada, catering to 34 First Nations communities across northern Ontario.
