The Blue Jays, who reached the World Series last year, fell short of the playoffs this season, finishing at the bottom of the American League East Division with a 79-83 record. Despite concluding the season with a victory over the Cincinnati Reds, the team struggled due to underperformance and injuries, resulting in a significant drop in standings.
Notable changes in the lineup, including departures of key players like Bo Bichette and Chris Bassitt, impacted the team’s dynamics compared to the previous year. The team failed to maintain the same level of competitiveness as they did in their previous successful season.
A late-season surge briefly placed the Blue Jays in a wild-card spot, but a series of defeats dashed their playoff hopes. Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s subpar performance, combined with pitching injuries and defensive setbacks, contributed to the team’s challenges on the field.
Despite the setbacks, there were some bright spots in the season, with players like Dylan Cease and Spencer Miles showing promise. The team’s offensive output was boosted by notable performances from players like Kazuma Okamoto.
