The Winnipeg Jets have taken action by suspending goaltender Connor Hellebuyck for his non-attendance at the team’s training camp, as announced by the NHL club on Wednesday evening. General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff will provide further details in a media briefing scheduled for Thursday morning, without specifying the duration of the suspension.
Hellebuyck, a distinguished player with three Vezina Trophies and the 2025 Hart Trophy for NHL MVP under his belt, made his desire for a trade public on August 27. In a statement released by his agent, Ray Petkau, Hellebuyck disclosed that he had privately sought a trade “several months ago,” allowing the organization time to handle the matter “discreetly and respectfully.”
Expressing gratitude for his time with the team, Hellebuyck acknowledged Winnipeg as his NHL home throughout his career. Reflecting on the pivotal moment in 2012 when he was given an opportunity by the Jets, he emphasized his commitment to proving their decision right.
Earlier this year, Cheveldayoff had indicated openness to trade offers for Hellebuyck ahead of the NHL draft in June, though he had not confirmed the goaltender’s trade request at that time.
