The Alhambra Hotel, constructed in 1887 after the Great Vancouver Fire, was a luxurious establishment known for its full-service amenities. The ghostly presence often spotted at Gaoler’s Mews back stairs is a striking woman in black attire with long dark hair, frequently seen gripping her waist before gliding into Blood Alley. The mysterious Man in Black, a well-dressed figure, follows suit, entering L’Abattoir restaurant and disappearing into the alley behind the atrium. Their intertwined past sparks curiosity and speculation.
During a recent tour, a young girl from Calgary claimed to see a man in an old top hat gazing down at them from a window above the Twisted Fork in Gaoler’s Mews, setting a spooky atmosphere right from the start.
