“Former Saskatoon Officer Appeals Termination Over Hells Angels Link”

A former Saskatoon police officer, Robbie Taylor, is appealing his termination following his dismissal due to his association with a Hells Angels affiliate. Police Chief Cam McBride fired Taylor in March 2025, citing his unsuitability for the role based on his friendship with the biker gang affiliate.

Taylor is pursuing his case with the Saskatchewan Police Commission after an independent hearing officer upheld his dismissal earlier this year. During the appeal hearing, Taylor’s legal representatives, Scott Hopley and Brian Pfefferle, argued that while some disciplinary action might have been warranted, Taylor remained capable of fulfilling his duties as a police officer.

One of the key issues raised in the appeal is an allegation of an abuse of process, initially brought up during a weeklong hearing in September 2025. The allegation centers on a complaint received by then-police chief Troy Cooper in 2023, accusing Taylor of interfering in a traffic stop involving his friend, whose identity is protected by a publication ban.

Although Cooper chose not to take disciplinary action following the complaint, Taylor’s lawyers only learned of this decision during the hearing in September, which they argued was unfair and constituted an abuse of process. They contended that withholding critical information impeded the pursuit of justice.

In response, Ashley Smith, representing the Saskatoon Police Service, stated that there was no tangible document to share regarding the decision not to pursue action against Taylor. Despite acknowledging the relevance of the information, Smith maintained that it could not be disclosed in a tangible form.

Smith further argued that Taylor should have been aware that maintaining a friendship with an individual associated with organized crime was unacceptable. She emphasized the irreparable loss of trust between McBride and Taylor, asserting that dismissal was the appropriate course of action to uphold public trust in the police service.

The Saskatchewan Police Commission panel, comprising Aaron Fox, Leanne Lang, and John Ajioritis, has reserved its decision on Taylor’s appeal.
