Last week, a large influx of 72,000 migrants from Morocco reached Ceuta, a small Spanish territory in Northern Africa, fueled by online rumors. Tragically, reports indicate that approximately 142 migrants lost their lives at the border, mainly due to drowning or being trampled. Despite this, most of the migrants departed voluntarily within two days.
The incident has sparked a political crisis for the pro-immigration Spanish government amid a growing anti-immigration sentiment in the European Union, which prioritizes border security. Questions remain about the circumstances leading to the mass arrival and who should be held accountable.
