An individual at Montreal’s Trudeau International Airport passed away as confirmed by the airport authority on Tuesday morning, following an incident where they were hit by an aircraft on Monday evening. Montreal police indicated that the aircraft was in reverse when it struck the ground crew staff member. The airport authority disclosed that emergency protocols were activated around 7:30 p.m. The injured employee was immediately taken to the hospital but unfortunately did not survive.
Expressing sorrow over the loss, the airport authority released a statement on Tuesday, referring to the event as a “tragic workplace accident” that deeply impacts the airport community. The aircraft, operated by French Bee airline, was supposed to depart for Paris at 6 p.m. ET on Monday. Radio-Canada reported that the flight had initially been planned for departure from Montreal on Sunday but was delayed.
Following the incident on Monday evening, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada acknowledged the situation and directed media queries to the airport. Montreal police announced on Tuesday morning that Employment and Social Development Canada, a federal agency, had initiated an investigation. The airport, in its official statement, stated its collaboration with the investigative authorities and swift implementation of support measures for employees and passengers affected by the tragic occurrence.
