Two officers were hospitalized after responding to an incident at Clover Way, described by police as fast-paced and tense as a crowd advanced towards a residential property.
Incidents on Tuesday night involved vandalism such as broken windows, damaged fences, and attempts to forcibly enter a residential property, as reported by the police. The protesters’ actions were motivated by suspicions that the homes were being used to accommodate asylum seekers.

The initially peaceful demonstration escalated when more officers arrived, forming a line, leading to a rowdier atmosphere with individuals advancing towards the police. Despite no attempts to breach the property, the resident noted instances of pepper spray use by the police, including towards a woman in a wheelchair.
The situation intensified with some individuals throwing stones at a police vehicle, prompting the deployment of a riot van to block access to the house. Norfolk Police confirmed two arrests on Wednesday night for offenses such as public order breaches, harassment, and possession of an offensive weapon. One individual in his 40s remains in police custody.
Brian Thompson, 68, from Fairfields, Thetford, was charged with possessing an offensive weapon, specifically a wooden bat. He has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear in Norwich Magistrates’ Court on August 25. Another man in his 30s, initially arrested in connection with Tuesday’s events for a public order offense, has been released with a conditional caution.
