Major rail disruptions have been reported in the Greater Manchester area, the Midlands, and the North West of England, according to National Rail. The issue stems from an electrical failure at a communications center, resulting in train cancellations, delays of up to an hour, and rescheduling.
Train services operated by Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, London Northwestern Railway, Northern, TransPennine Express, and Transport for Wales are all affected by the ongoing disruption. National Rail anticipates that the disruption will persist until the end of the day.
East Midlands Railway has issued travel advice in response to the situation. Avanti West Coast has informed passengers that Macclesfield is currently not accessible due to the disruptions. Passengers with canceled services are advised to travel on one of the two Avanti West Coast services immediately before or after their original booking.
During the disruption, Off-Peak ticket restrictions have been relaxed. Passengers who no longer wish to travel due to delays or cancellations can request a full refund from the ticket retailer.
Northern and TransPennine Express have advised customers not to travel. Northern customers can utilize their tickets at no extra cost on designated alternative services, with ticket restrictions lifted in the affected areas. Similarly, TransPennine Express customers can use their tickets at no extra charge in both directions on specified services.
According to National Rail, various rail companies are impacted by the ongoing disruption. A notice on the National Rail website urges passengers to check their entire journey for potential disruptions, as other train operators may also be affected.
