A significant blaze has erupted at another popular scenic location in the UK, prompting warnings for people to steer clear of the area.
Authorities dispatched eight fire trucks to the Barr Beacon nature reserve in Great Barr, Walsall, to combat the fire. Police officers were stationed at three entrances to the reserve, blocking access as smoke billowed into the sky.
The West Midlands Fire Service issued a statement confirming the presence of eight firefighting crews at Barr Beacon, where they were tackling a large grassland fire. They advised the public to avoid the area if possible.
Reports indicate that Beacon Road was shut down in both directions due to the fire, causing closures between B4151 Beacon Hill and Bridle Lane. Barr Beacon is renowned for being one of the highest points in the West Midlands, offering stunning views of Birmingham.
In a separate incident, crews were also dispatched to Perry Avenue where a fire broke out at Perry Hall Playing Fields. Spectators attending the European Cycle Speedway 2026 tournament witnessed a large section of grass engulfed in flames as the fire rapidly spread through the meadow around 1 pm.
Another blaze is currently raging at Kingfisher Park in Hay Mills, east Birmingham, with thick smoke plumes and intense flames visible. This fire reportedly started around 4 pm.
The UK has seen a surge in open fires in recent weeks due to prolonged hot weather and minimal rainfall. Seven regions in England, including London, East Anglia, Hertfordshire, and the West Midlands, have been declared in drought by the Government. Additionally, the entirety of Wales is experiencing drought conditions.
