A courageous Golden retriever defied the odds after enduring five surgeries following an adder bite. Kobi, a seven-month-old pup, exhibited signs of lethargy while walking through tall grass, prompting his owner Roma Morgan to seek immediate veterinary care. Despite initial treatments, Kobi’s condition worsened until a puncture wound from the snake bite was discovered on his neck. Subsequent intensive medical interventions, including anti-venom administration, led to a series of operations and wound care sessions over ten months, amounting to over £8,000 in expenses.
Roma, residing in Penparcau near Aberystwth, Wales, expressed gratitude towards the veterinary team for their dedicated care in saving Kobi. She emphasized the importance of being aware of adder bites in dogs, cautioning pet owners about the associated risks. Witnessing Kobi’s recovery brought immense joy to Roma and her husband Steve, who received support from friends through a fundraising campaign initiated in June the previous year.
Describing Kobi as a brave survivor, the fundraising page recounted the challenging journey of combating the venom’s effects and the rigorous treatment regimen to restore his health. Adders, the sole venomous snakes native to the UK, are protected under wildlife conservation laws.
In a recent development, a veterinarian advised pet owners to promptly seek veterinary attention upon noticing any unusual changes in their pets, as delays could have fatal consequences. The vet emphasized the importance of recognizing potential emergencies and highlighted scenarios where immediate medical intervention is crucial. Additionally, the PDSA warned about the risks of GDV in dogs, particularly in certain breeds and age groups, underscoring the necessity of swift surgical intervention to address the condition.
