Greek authorities have identified a key suspect in the case of a Scottish woman found deceased in a suitcase in Athens. The victim, Elisabeth-Jane Ross, also known as Lisa, was discovered by a homeless individual in the Kypseli neighborhood. The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear as investigators delve into the matter.
Police believe that Elisabeth, 38, may have passed away approximately eight days before being found, without any visible injuries or signs of a struggle on her body. Authorities are now on the lookout for a man known as ‘Markos’, a homeless individual who frequented the area where the woman’s body was located.
Described as a heavy drinker and drug user with a reputation for aggressiveness, ‘Markos’ is in his 40s and extensively tattooed. Greek police are eager to question him, along with several others connected to the investigation. Following the discovery of Elisabeth’s body, it was revealed that messages were sent from her phone posthumously, indicating an attempt to deceive about her well-being.
Elisabeth had traveled to Greece from the US via Cyprus and had been residing with Greek acquaintances in Keratsini before planning to visit “American friends” in Kypseli. Authorities are working to identify these individuals and await toxicology results. It is believed that Elisabeth, a frequent visitor to Greece for charitable work, may have been in the area out of compassion for the homeless, influenced by her Christian beliefs.
Police Scotland is collaborating with Greek authorities, providing support to Elisabeth’s family in Scotland.
