Authorities are currently probing the discovery of a man’s body at a recycling plant in Dublin to determine if he was brought there from Cork in a bin lorry. The man, identified as Andrew Haire, 35, had been in Cork before his body was found at a recycling facility in Clondalkin, Dublin. Originally from Co Meath, Mr. Haire was familiar to those assisting homeless and addiction-affected individuals in Cork.
The workers at the Greyhound waste plant found Mr. Haire’s body in the sorting area on a Friday night, sparking an investigation into the possibility that he died in Cork and was then transported to the Dublin facility in a bin lorry. Gardaà are looking into the circumstances of Mr. Haire’s death, exploring the potential of foul play as he had not collected his social welfare recently.
Gardaà are reviewing CCTV footage of Mr. Haire’s last known movements in Co Cork and interviewing individuals acquainted with him. They have named Mr. Haire in their statement, requesting information on his whereabouts between July 17 and July 24, during which they believe he visited Dublin, Kilkenny, and Cork city centers.
According to the Irish Mirror, Mr. Haire was closely associated with Donal Scanlon, a homeless man who tragically died in a drowning incident in 2024. Mr. Scanlon, alongside another individual, was found in a canal near the Charlemont Luas stop at Grand Parade on July 6, 2024. Mr. Haire provided evidence during Mr. Scanlon’s inquest, mentioning the involvement of alcohol and drugs before the tragic incident.
A friend of Mr. Haire, speaking anonymously, shared insights into their relationship, describing Mr. Haire as a kind and lively person who had experienced homelessness since around 2017. Gardaà have set up an Incident Room at Lucan Garda Station to investigate Mr. Haire’s death and are urging anyone with information on his activities between July 17 and July 24 to contact Ronanstown Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line.
