Three dogs were rescued from a home where they were living in deplorable conditions surrounded by broken furniture and shattered glass by concerned animal welfare groups.
The unfortunate canines were found in a state of neglect, lacking access to food and water, prompting a guilty plea from their owner, Connor Stewart, for violating animal welfare laws.
Upon inspection by Scottish SPCA officials through the property’s letterbox in Livingstone, it was evident that the dogs’ living conditions were appalling. Stewart was directed to allow the dogs out, and upon compliance, the Dobermans Ammo and Karma, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier Kya were brought out.
Ammo, visibly underweight with protruding ribs and overgrown nails, was found in a squalid environment filled with urine-soaked floors, feces, and broken furniture. The property also contained smashed glass and electric shock collars charging in the kitchen area.
The inspector described the conditions as some of the worst encountered, leading to the decision to remove all dogs and place them under the care of the Scottish SPCA.
Police assistance was required to remove the animals, as Stewart absconded with the Dobermans, leaving behind the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Kya, who was taken for medical attention.
The neglected dog exhibited signs of dehydration and malnourishment, indicating prolonged suffering. Stewart, following a guilty plea, received a five-year ban on owning animals and a £200 fine.
The inspector expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision, condemning Stewart’s actions as cruel and emphasizing the importance of upholding animal welfare standards.
The inspector further emphasized that such neglectful treatment of animals is intolerable, hoping that the sentencing serves as a deterrent against future instances of animal cruelty in Scotland.
