Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has delivered a chilling threat to the British Royal Family and warned UK military bases following a reported US bombers’ attack allegedly launched from RAF Fairford.
The origin of the B1 bomber involved in the mission against Iran, whether taking off directly from Fairford or stopping at another US base in Europe, remains unclear. RAF Fairford, primarily a European base for the US Air Force (USAF), houses heavy bombers on standby for missions in regions like the Middle East.
Despite Fairford’s RAF designation, the Tehran regime has expanded its list of potential targets to include the UK, even targeting the Royal Family, citing retaliation for UK’s facilitation of US bomber missions from British bases.
Previously, then-Prime Minister Keir Starmer granted permission for the USAF to use Fairford for ‘defensive’ strikes against Iranian forces, distancing Britain from overt involvement in US-Iran conflicts. However, the use of UK bases, though under US control, has sparked controversy over perceived British implication in the war.
When asked for comment, the UK government declined to discuss foreign military operations for operational security reasons. Reports indicate that the B1 bomber, capable of carrying numerous 2,000lb bombs, departed RAF Fairford, possibly making a stop en route.
In response to the US-led military actions against Iran, the IRGC has issued a direct warning to the “British regime,” cautioning against continued support for America’s efforts in the conflict. The statement highlighted that any base aiding an invasion of Iranian territory becomes a legitimate target, including a pointed threat to the British monarchy.
The IRGC’s recent statement, entitled “Warning to the British monarchy,” coincides with escalating violence in the Middle East post the breakdown of the US-Iran ceasefire. Amid heightened tensions, the IRGC emphasized a commitment to thwarting American military maneuvers without respite.
The situation has witnessed the Houthis, aligned with Iran, targeting Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea and imposing a blockade on the strategic Bab al Mandeb Strait, leading to a surge in oil prices globally.
As the conflict intensifies, the use of RAF Fairford in US operations has fueled anti-war protests, underscoring the contentious role of the base in the Iran crisis. With the return of heavy bombers to missions and escalating military presence in the Middle East, the region braces for further turmoil amid geopolitical tensions.
