Staff members at a Shropshire animal rescue center expressed shock and disbelief after discovering that one of their cats had been shot with a rifle. The incident involved Mr. Star, a ginger cat from Severn Valley Rescue in Billingsley near Bridgnorth. Mr. Star went missing on a Saturday morning and returned with a severe leg injury. Veterinary treatment revealed that a bullet from an actual rifle had shattered his leg, causing significant blood loss and critical condition.
A fundraiser has been initiated by Amanda Ball, a co-founder of Severn Valley Rescue, to assist in covering the costly treatment required for Mr. Star’s recovery. The cat is currently undergoing stabilization treatment before a necessary front leg amputation. The fundraiser has already raised over £500 of the £2,500 target.
Severn Valley Rescue has reported the incident to the authorities and is urging anyone with information about the shooting, especially regarding activities near Billingsley on July 17 or 18, to come forward. The center is actively reviewing CCTV footage and engaging with the community to gather evidence for the investigation.
Established in 2008 as Shropshire Donkey Rescue, Severn Valley Rescue is a registered charity caring for over 200 animals, many of which have various disabilities. The rescue’s commitment to helping animals in need is evident through their work with special cases, such as a deaf pig, three-legged cats, a one-eyed alpaca, and a blind donkey.
