A woman discovered her boyfriend was a registered sex offender during a holiday trip at a Turkish border control. Daniel Greaves, 34, residing in Grimsby, had concealed his past convictions related to engaging in sexual communications with a child. Greaves, a warehouse driver, was handed a community order and placed on the Sex Offenders Register at Grimsby Crown Court in December 2024. Additionally, he was instructed to adhere to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, prohibiting unsupervised contact with individuals under 16.
Greaves has recently confessed to breaching the Sexual Harm Prevention Order twice in January and February of this year. According to prosecutor Craig Lowe at Grimsby Crown Court, Greaves and his girlfriend were at a local pub with children in January and at a circus in February, where he was left alone with the children, breaching the order.
The woman became aware of Greaves’ criminal history when they encountered difficulties at the Turkish border during their vacation, prompting her to notify the authorities. Greaves had failed to disclose his past offenses, which involved communicating with individuals posing as young girls online.
In court, Greaves expressed regret through a letter to the judge, emphasizing that no harm occurred during the outings with the children in public settings. However, Judge Richard Woolfall noted Greaves’ fortunate avoidance of more severe charges and emphasized the importance of complying with the conditions of the court order, specifically the restriction on contact with individuals under 16. Ultimately, Judge Woolfall sentenced Greaves to 10 months in prison, highlighting the imperative nature of the Sexual Harm Prevention Order in safeguarding children.
