A powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake has triggered a tsunami warning after hitting near the coasts of Mexico and Guatemala. Residents within 300km of the epicenter, located off Puerto Madero in Chiapas, Mexico, have been advised to prepare for potential tsunami waves. The earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 10km, has prompted evacuations in Guatemala City. The seismic activity is attributed to the complex tectonic environment in the region, where the Caribbean, North American, Pacific, Rivera, and Cocos plates converge, increasing the risk of earthquakes. Authorities have cautioned of the possibility of hazardous tsunami waves affecting coastal areas within the vicinity of the earthquake’s epicenter off the coast of Chiapas, Mexico.
