Amazon customers in the United States who have young children are being urged by regulators to immediately check any batteries in their possession. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) has issued a recall alert for coin batteries sold on Amazon under the brand name ‘JUNPOWER Household Batteries’. The specific product being recalled is the Junpower CR2032 20-pack of batteries, packaged as model 2023-V3, due to incorrect packaging.
The affected product, which was sold as four packs containing five batteries each, was available for purchase between December 2023 and September 2024, typically priced between $8 and $9. The improper packaging could potentially allow young children to access the batteries and accidentally ingest them, posing a serious risk of injury or even death.
According to the USCPSC notice released on July 2, consumers are advised to discontinue the use of the recalled coin batteries immediately, store them in a place inaccessible to children, and contact Junpower for a free replacement battery. Consumers are instructed to visit Junpower’s recall page and follow the provided instructions to register for the recall process.
As part of the recall procedure, consumers will need to mark the product with the date, their initials, and the word “Recalled” using a permanent marker. They must then submit a photo of the marked product and dispose of the batteries properly in order to receive a replacement unit. The USCPSC stated that there have been no reported injuries associated with the batteries thus far, with approximately 67,000 units sold online before the recall was issued.
