The UK’s third heatwave of 2026 could face disruptions due to rain and thunderstorms, with temperatures soaring to highs of 32C in certain regions this week, according to the latest forecast by the Met Office.
A significant portion of England and Wales is anticipated to experience sweltering conditions in the upcoming days, with temperatures likely to range between 30C and 32C as the hot weather persists.
Although some areas in southern England may encounter isolated showers and thunderstorms this week, many regions are expected to enjoy abundant sunshine, as highlighted by the Met Office.
Deputy Chief Forecaster Steven Keates pointed out that the prevailing weather pattern will continue to be stable with extensive sunshine throughout the week, accompanied by peak temperatures of 30C-32C in parts of England and Wales.
While there is a possibility of sporadic showers and thunderstorms in isolated spots in southern England on Wednesday and Thursday, most areas are unlikely to experience any rainfall during the week, Keates explained.
Along the eastern coastlines, temperatures are expected to be slightly cooler due to cloud cover and onshore breezes, creating a contrast with inland areas, as described by the forecaster.
Looking ahead to the weekend, high pressure is projected to re-establish itself from the northwest, diminishing the risk of showers and reinstating settled, dry, and warm conditions.
Although temperatures may decrease slightly from midweek peaks, a pleasant and warm weather outlook is anticipated for much of the UK through Saturday.
Additionally, the Met Office has issued warnings regarding an elevated risk of wildfires in parts of England and Wales due to the prolonged hot and dry weather conditions. Stronger breezes in certain southern areas could also pose hazards for water-related activities.
Authorities including the National Fire Chiefs Council and Paddle UK have emphasized the importance of checking the forecast before engaging in water activities this week to ensure safety and awareness.
