A tragic incident occurred in Florida where a toddler passed away after being left in a car during high temperatures while under the care of a babysitter.
The two-year-old child was discovered by the father in a vehicle outside a daycare center and was immediately taken to the hospital, but unfortunately, could not be saved.
This marks the second fatality in less than a week in Broward County due to a child being left unattended in a hot climate. The Hallandale Beach Police Department is currently investigating the situation, which happened last Sunday during the Fourth of July weekend when temperatures soared to approximately 38C.
Authorities were alerted to the incident around 1:35 pm when the child was found inside a car on Northwest 7th Avenue. The circumstances surrounding the child being left in the vehicle and potential charges have not been disclosed yet.
In a statement, the Hallandale Beach Police Department confirmed responding to a nearby hospital regarding the child left in a vehicle under the care of a babysitter at a residence on NW 7th Ave. Sadly, the child was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The case remains an active and ongoing investigation as officers continue to collect and review evidence. The police expressed their condolences to the family and all those affected by the tragedy.
Police Chief Michel Michel emphasized the importance of always checking the back seat before locking a vehicle, stating that simple actions like placing essential items in the back seat can help prevent such incidents and save lives.
This heartbreaking event unfolded just 20 miles away from a similar incident in which a father mistakenly left his toddler in a car outside a Plantation daycare center last month. The father, who thought he had dropped the child off at the nursery, only realized the mistake when he went to pick the child up later in the day. An investigation into that incident is also ongoing.
