Eight individuals were successfully rescued following a seaplane crash into a river, marking the second such incident in the last month.
The Quest Kodiak 100 aircraft, privately owned, went down in New York City’s East River on Sunday, June 5, around midday while heading to the seaplane terminal on the east side of the city. The plane had taken off from The Hamptons, a prestigious location on Long Island, and was partially submerged with one wing following the crash.
Video footage depicted the rescue operation involving five boats and another seaplane in the vicinity between Brooklyn and Manhattan. Two passengers suffered minor injuries during the mishap.
All passengers were successfully retrieved, and the seaplane was subsequently towed to the docks. This incident involving the Kodiak 100 plane represents the second seaplane rescue from the East River in the past month, following a previous incident where a plane was hit by a wave during take-off near the Throgs Neck Bridge in Queens.
Authorities have initiated an ongoing investigation into the crash, as confirmed by the local police department.
