Donald Trump expressed gratitude to FIFA for their decision to suspend Folarin Balogun’s one-match ban at the 2026 World Cup, allowing him to participate in the USA’s upcoming match against Belgium. Balogun had received a red card in a previous game for an incident involving Tarik Muharemovic.
FIFA chose to suspend the mandatory ban for a year based on article 27 of the Fifa disciplinary code, with the condition that any similar future violations during the probationary period could result in immediate enforcement of the suspension. This decision pleased President Trump, who promptly took to social media to thank FIFA for rectifying what he deemed an injustice.
The USA Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, had also advocated for a review of the ban, emphasizing the need for an appeal process in such cases. USA head coach Mauricio Pochettino defended Balogun, stating that the red card was unwarranted and unintentional.
Chris Richards revealed that Balogun learned about the suspension through social media, expressing his excitement with a casual “Lit, you know?” The flexibility in FIFA’s disciplinary code allows for the suspension of sanctions under certain circumstances.
In other news, England and Nike have unveiled their new kits for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, featuring home, away, and goalkeeper designs. Customers can benefit from free delivery using a special code. The judicial body’s regulations permit the partial or full suspension of disciplinary measures, subject to the individual’s behavior during the probationary period.
