A man who committed a heinous murder while proclaiming himself a divine figure opted to mutilate his own eyes and tongue in a misguided attempt to avoid legal consequences but was ultimately convicted of the crime.
Robert Brandon Keller, 32, was found guilty of the murder of Bruce William Dupree, 43, during a carjacking incident in October 2024. In a bizarre courtroom declaration, Keller asserted, “I am a divine being.”
Following his arrest, Keller blinded himself and inflicted self-harm in a ploy to manipulate the justice system, hoping for transfer to a medical facility. Despite his actions, he received a life sentence on July 2.
Under the influence of drugs, Keller viciously attacked Dupree, slashing his throat and abandoning him near Interstate 16 in Bulloch County, Georgia. Fortunately, a passing motorist discovered Dupree pleading for help and alerted authorities.
Despite medical efforts, Dupree succumbed to his wounds. Keller was swiftly apprehended at a local inn by law enforcement. Judge Matthew Hube condemned Keller for preying on a Good Samaritan and leaving devastation in his wake.
Keller was subsequently handed two consecutive life sentences plus an additional 25 years. Bulloch County District Attorney Jillian Gibson expressed gratitude for removing a dangerous individual from the community.
In an emotional statement to the court, Dupree’s niece, Mandy Moore, emphasized the irreplaceable loss caused by Keller’s actions and the importance of justice prevailing to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
