The wife of a wealthy Ukrainian businessman, Vadym Yermolaiev, has clarified that she was not present during the tragic bombing incident in Monaco that severely injured her husband. Initial reports suggested that Anna Ermolaeva had lost both her legs in the explosion, which occurred at a residential complex in Monaco. However, it has now been confirmed that she was not at the scene when the bomb went off.
Following the detonation of a bomb at the residential complex, Vadym Yermolaiev was rushed to a hospital in Nice, France, where he remains in critical condition. Two other individuals were also injured in the incident. The attack, suspected to be a targeted murder plot involving a parcel bomb, occurred around 9 pm local time.
In an interview with Ukrainian media, Anna Ermolaeva confirmed her absence during the bombing but expressed being under severe stress. She emphasized their cooperation with the ongoing investigation and law enforcement authorities.
The individual who sustained severe injuries in the attack, including the amputation of limbs, has not been identified. Additionally, her 17-year-old son was also injured in the explosion, thrown a significant distance but is currently in stable condition.
According to Christophe Mirmand, Monaco’s minister of state, the family was specifically targeted in the explosion as they entered their apartment building. Authorities in France have initiated a large-scale manhunt for the suspect involved in the incident, captured on CCTV fleeing towards a nearby commune.
French officials are treating the bombing as an attempted murder rather than an act of terrorism, as confirmed by Monaco’s public prosecutor, Stephane Thibault. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, with Vadym Yermolaiev being the most prominent victim of the incident.
Vadym Yermolaiev, a successful Ukrainian entrepreneur who became a Cypriot citizen in 2017, was ranked as one of the wealthiest individuals in his country in 2020, amassing a fortune of £173.8 million. The investigation into the bombing continues as authorities seek to apprehend the perpetrator.
