President Trump has issued a strong warning, declaring his intent to eliminate Iran entirely, following recent strikes between the US and Iran. The threat was made on his Truth Social platform after US aircraft targeted Iranian missile and drone storage sites, as well as coastal radar locations, for breaching the Cease Fire Agreement. Trump emphasized the possibility of resorting to military action to finish what has been started successfully, stating that if needed, Iran would cease to exist.
The warning came after the US Central Command retaliated against Tehran for allegedly attacking a commercial oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz using drones. The US military, under Trump’s direction, carried out strikes on 10 targets in Iran, hitting surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense sites, drone facilities, and minelayer capabilities.
Despite the recent agreement between the US and Iran, the series of strikes highlights the ongoing risk of escalation in the conflict. The targeted vessel, M/T Kiku, a Panama-flagged tanker carrying over two million barrels of crude oil, was attacked by Iran near the strait. Additionally, the US military responded to reports of another attack on the Singapore-flagged cargo ship, M/V Ever Lovely, emphasizing Iran’s violation of the ceasefire agreement.
While a ceasefire agreement and a memorandum of understanding had been reached earlier, tensions in the Strait of Hormuz persist, disrupting normal shipping activities. Tehran’s warnings against navigating the strait without coordination further fuel the volatile situation in the region.
