Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, Britain’s pioneer gay surrogate father, and his partner Scott Drewitt-Barlow, are facing serious allegations of rape and grooming young men for sexual exploitation. The duo appeared in Chelmsford Crown Court where they did not enter pleas and are scheduled for trial starting January 18, 2027, with an estimated duration of eight to 10 weeks. Both individuals, residing in Danbury, Essex, are accused of various offenses, including rape, sexual assault, and trafficking for sexual exploitation. They have been detained until a forthcoming hearing on September 7 to respond to the charges.
During a previous court session at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court, Prosecutor Serena Berry highlighted that the Drewitt-Barlow couple, known for their affluent lifestyle and appearances in documentaries and reality TV shows, own the Maldon and Tiptree football club and operate businesses in Essex and abroad. Allegations suggest that they targeted, befriended, and groomed young males, inviting them to their residences and other locations.
Barrie Drewitt-Barlow made headlines in 1999 as Britain’s first gay surrogate parent. He faces accusations of multiple counts of sexual assault, rape, and facilitating travel for exploitation. Scott Drewitt-Barlow is charged with sexual assault, rape, and facilitating travel for exploitation involving a male over 16. Essex Police announced additional charges against both individuals, with Barrie facing 15 new alleged offenses, including sexual activity with a child, paying for sexual services of a child, rape, sexual assault, and causing sexual activity without consent. Scott received extra charges of rape and causing or inciting sexual activity.
