A nurse in Dorset informed a patient that their cancer was caused by receiving Covid vaccinations and handed them an anti-vaccination leaflet. The nurse, Penny Ann Senner, who worked at Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust, has been removed from her position after a misconduct panel by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) found her guilty of several charges, including distributing anti-vaccination material to a patient.
The patient, referred to as Patient A, stated that during a routine appointment in August 2023, Senner insinuated the link between Covid vaccines and cancer in a covert manner. Patient A revealed that Senner explicitly blamed the vaccines for causing her cancer, claiming it had been suppressed from public knowledge.
Patient A emphasized that Senner’s statements were presented as definitive assertions rather than suggestions. Despite being asked if her opinion would change if there was evidence linking Covid jabs to cancer, Patient A remained firm in her stance, expressing vulnerability due to ongoing chemotherapy treatments and medical appointments.
Furthermore, Patient A disclosed that Senner provided her with an anti-vaccination leaflet, which upon examination, was recognized as unreliable information. The incident left Patient A distressed and concerned about her children’s vaccine safety.
In response to the allegations, Senner expressed regret for causing distress to Patient A, stating that it was not her intention. The panel also uncovered that Senner had accessed numerous patient records without authorization, citing it as “research.”
The panel’s ruling highlighted the emotional and psychological harm caused to Patient A, noting Senner’s lack of professionalism and failure to recognize the patient’s vulnerability. Senner’s actions were deemed to undermine public trust in health advice, leading to her removal from the nursing register with an 18-month suspension pending appeal.
The panel condemned Senner for sharing personal beliefs inconsistent with official policies and health guidelines, indicating a breach of professional conduct.
