In West Derby, a woman has been taken into custody on suspicion of manslaughter following the discovery of a deceased man and multiple dogs in a residence. Merseyside Police responded to a call on Coachmans Drive on Friday evening regarding the death of a man in his 70s, which is currently being treated as unexplained.
The 55-year-old woman from West Derby is being held on suspicion of manslaughter, ill-treatment, neglect of a care recipient, and causing harm to an animal. She has been conditionally released while further investigations are conducted.
Upon arrival at the scene, emergency services found several dogs within the premises, some of which had tragically perished. A police car has been stationed outside the residence, and a tent from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service has been set up on the driveway, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.
Authorities have conducted a post-mortem examination, with toxicology tests underway. Efforts are ongoing to locate the man’s next of kin, and individuals who may have information about the deceased are encouraged to come forward.
Temporary Detective Chief Superintendent Helen Bennett expressed condolences to the man’s family and urged the public to refrain from speculation to facilitate the investigation. While a suspect has been apprehended, authorities are appealing for additional information from witnesses.
The RSPCA spokesperson mentioned ongoing collaboration with Merseyside Police but indicated limitations on sharing further details at this stage. Anyone with relevant information is urged to reach out to Merseyside Police through various channels or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
