Greek authorities have apprehended a man believed to have connections to Hamas for an attempted assault on a cruise ship. The suspect, a 37-year-old Palestinian individual, was seized on the island of Crete. He is alleged to have enlisted with Hamas and traveled overseas for training with the militant organization.
Following the arrest, intelligence operatives conducted searches at residences in Crete and Athens, uncovering various electronic devices and financial cards. The individual is scheduled to face a judge on Sunday.
The man’s arrest is linked to the detention of four other Palestinian men in Cyprus under investigation for “terrorism-related” activities and affiliation with a criminal group. Two men were initially detained on May 22 in Cyprus based on intelligence assessments. Subsequently, suspected explosive materials were discovered in residences associated with one of the men. The remaining two individuals were taken into custody on May 29 as part of the same inquiry.
