Young individuals entering the workforce will receive additional support through a new collaboration involving the government, industry, and trade unions.
The Early Careers Jobs Alliance, co-chaired by Mike Clancy, General Secretary of Prospect, and Katie Gallagher OBE, the government’s AI Champion for the Digital and Technologies sector, will examine the impact of AI on entry-level positions. This initiative aims to analyze how entry-level roles are evolving and provide practical guidance to businesses on restructuring positions while ensuring opportunities for young individuals.
With a financial backing of £20 million, the details of this program will be revealed during the Technology Secretary’s address at the world’s inaugural AI Adoption Summit on Monday.
As part of this effort, an AI bootcamp program will be launched nationwide in England to offer a career pathway to young individuals at risk of unemployment or disengagement from education and training. This initiative follows a report highlighting that over a million individuals aged 16-24 in the UK are currently not engaged in education, employment, or training.
Liz Kendall, the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation, and Technology, emphasized the importance of creating an AI-driven future that benefits both businesses and workers. She stated that it is crucial to support individuals through the changing job landscape driven by technological advancements.
Pat McFadden, the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, emphasized the need to provide young people with the necessary skills and opportunities to thrive in a rapidly evolving economy. Through initiatives like the Youth Guarantee, efforts are being made to ensure that every young person has access to learning and earning opportunities.
By equipping young individuals with technological and AI skills, the government aims to ensure that everyone can benefit from the opportunities arising from the technological revolution.
