“Putin Declines Zelensky Meeting Amid Diplomatic Spat”

Vladimir Putin has declined an invitation from Volodymyr Zelensky for a face-to-face meeting, citing the Ukrainian leader’s letter as “rude.” The Russian president dismissed the offer for direct talks to resolve the ongoing conflict.

During a speech at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin criticized Zelensky’s letter, questioning its intent and accusing it of containing elements of disrespect. He expressed skepticism about the possibility of constructive negotiations under such circumstances.

Zelensky, in his letter directly addressed to Putin, urged an end to the war and hinted at potential unrest within Russia. He highlighted the toll the conflict has taken on Russian soldiers, with reports of significant casualties in May alone.

Proposing neutral locations like Switzerland, Turkey, or an Arab country for their meeting, Zelensky emphasized the importance of leaders resolving critical issues. He called for a specific date to be set for the meeting to take place.

The exchange between the two leaders underscores the ongoing tensions and challenges in diplomatic efforts to address the conflict.
