In Japan, a bear with unique abilities like opening windows and using taps is currently on the loose following attacks on four individuals. The highly intelligent animal is causing chaos in Fukushima, where authorities are actively searching for it after it went on a rampage in an office building and a factory.
The bear was captured on surveillance footage on Wednesday, first chasing and attacking a worker in a company parking lot before being scared off by a passing motorist. Subsequently, the bear sought refuge in an office building, where it assaulted another man before escaping once more.
After injuring two more people, the bear managed to enter an electronics factory where astonished workers witnessed it skillfully operating a tap to drink water. Despite efforts to capture it using tranquilizer guns and traps, the crafty bear outwitted them by unlocking a window and fleeing to freedom, leaving scratch marks around the lock.
During an emergency press briefing, Fukushima officials disclosed that despite being tranquilized, the bear did not succumb to the anesthesia, leaving authorities puzzled. The city mayor, Yuki Baba, described the bear as remarkably intelligent, noting its ability to manipulate a faucet for water and open a locked window independently.
A coordinated search involving government officials, police, hunters, and drones is ongoing to locate the elusive bear, which remains at large as of Friday. Mayor Baba emphasized the need for caution due to the bear’s agitated state, urging continued collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure public safety.
As a precaution, local schools were closed temporarily but have since reopened, with teachers taking additional safety measures such as securing ground-floor windows and doors.
