A 23-year-old woman wanted in connection with serious child sex offenses in Lithuania was discovered hiding in a wardrobe in Northern Ireland, according to the police. The woman was apprehended by officers from the International Policing Unit after forcibly entering a rural property in Coalisland based on a Lithuanian extradition warrant. The officers found her concealed in a wardrobe, as confirmed by the PSNI.
The woman is sought by Lithuanian authorities to serve a prison sentence for grave sexual offenses against a child in the Mazeikiai region of the country. She is scheduled to appear before Laganside Extradition Court on Thursday.
Sergeant Davey, from the PSNI’s International Policing Unit, stated that despite the fugitive’s attempts to evade capture, she was successfully apprehended. He emphasized the commitment to pursuing offenders and supporting victims.
The arrest exemplifies the PSNI’s efforts in locating, arresting, and bringing to justice individuals wanted for serious crimes in Europe, according to Sergeant Davey. Superintendent Marty Reid, also from the same unit, affirmed the PSNI’s dedication to tracking down fugitives and collaborating with European law enforcement partners.
Moreover, Superintendent Reid highlighted the PSNI’s collaboration with the UK Joint International Crime Centre, Interpol, and Europol to ensure justice for victims both in Northern Ireland and internationally.
