A man from the UK passed away in Fuerteventura following a helicopter rescue from the sea. Responders were alerted to Playa de La Escalera, near El Cotillo in the northern part of the Canary island, around 5:30 pm on a Thursday regarding two individuals struggling in the water off the well-liked beach in La Oliva.
The man was spotted by rescuers from the Canary Islands Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) helicopter, as reported by Canarian Weekly. Upon retrieval, the crews discovered he was in cardiac arrest and immediately initiated CPR while transporting him to a nearby landing location.
The second swimmer managed to exit the sea unaided and received medical attention on the beach from paramedics, according to the source.
