UK Heatwave Set to End: Temperatures Plunge to 5C Next Week

Following an exceptional period of scorching weather, the latest weather maps suggest that temperatures may drop significantly to as low as 5C next week.

The end of May saw the UK engulfed in a remarkable heatwave, with many areas experiencing extreme heat. The national weather agency reported that 23 weather stations broke the previous UK May maximum temperature record of 32.8C, reaching as high as 35.1C at Kew Gardens in Greater London on May 26.

However, the warm weather is expected to subside soon. The Met Office announced that the heatwave will diminish in intensity over the coming days, transitioning to cooler and more unsettled conditions by the weekend.

Met Office’s Chief Forecaster, Chris Bulmer, mentioned that the hot spell is starting to dissipate, with fresher conditions moving in by Friday and the weekend. Showers and thunderstorms are likely as the weather becomes more changeable, with temperatures returning to normal for this time of year.

Forecast data from WXCharts indicates that temperatures next week will hover around the mid-teens Celsius in most of the UK. However, Scotland could see temperatures as low as 5C in certain areas on Sunday, June 7.

While Scotland and England may experience temperatures ranging from 7C to 11C, Wales could see temperatures between 7C and 10C. Northern Ireland is expected to range between 8C and 10C. By Thursday, June 11, temperatures are forecasted to rise to around 21 or 22C in southern England.

The East Midlands, East of England, South East, and Greater London are likely to have the highest temperatures, ranging from 11C to 20C in other parts of the country.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast for the first week of June anticipates the arrival of Atlantic weather systems from the west, bringing showers and rain at times. Drier conditions are expected in the south and east, with more rain likely in the west and northwest.

As we enter the second week of June, drier weather may prevail, with temperatures near-normal and slightly warmer in eastern regions. Breezy conditions are expected, particularly along exposed coasts and western areas.
