The family of a 13-year-old boy who tragically drowned while trying to cool off on a scorching day has paid their respects at the site where the incident occurred. Identified as Reco by locals, the boy encountered difficulties in a reservoir in Yorkshire on Bank Holiday Monday, in front of numerous witnesses. His relatives honored him by laying flowers at Leadbeater Dam in West Yorks.
Although the family chose not to speak publicly, they expressed their grief with poignant messages like “RIP Reco. Miss you Millions” and “RIP Reco. You will be forever missed.” Witnesses reported that the boy drowned in the presence of people enjoying activities such as paddling, swimming, and picnicking at the secluded reservoir, located far from residential areas.
The incident unfolded at a remote reservoir that lacks residential properties along its shores. Accessible only through a rugged path across fields, the site does not have direct road access and lacks warning signs regarding swimming hazards. Local resident Natalie Smith recounted the flurry of emergency responders arriving at the scene, noting the unexpected tragedy on a day bustling with visitors seeking respite from the heat through various outdoor activities.
West Yorkshire Police confirmed the distressing incident, stating that they received a call about the boy’s distress in the water.
