A woman has recently been taken into custody in connection with the suspected homicide of a six-year-old boy named Kyran Durnin. Kyran was last seen alive in June 2022 but was officially reported missing at the end of August 2024, prompting an upgraded investigation into his disappearance.
Authorities have detained a woman in her 50s under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as part of the ongoing inquiry, with a search underway at a residence in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland. The arrest coincides with what would have been Kyran’s 10th birthday, less than two weeks ago.
In a statement, a Gardai spokesperson disclosed that the arrest was made on Monday, May 25, 2026, in relation to the disappearance and presumed murder of Kyran Durnin. The woman is currently being held at a Garda Station in the Eastern Region while investigations continue.
According to reports, the detained woman was acquainted with Kyran, who vanished from his Drogheda home in August 2024. The case was elevated to a murder investigation in October 2025 after suspicions arose that Kyran may have perished in 2022. Additionally, a man previously arrested in connection with Kyran’s case, Anthony Maguire, was discovered deceased in December 2024.
