“UK Heatwave: 18 Counties to Reach 34C or Higher”

Weather forecasts indicate that 18 counties in the UK could experience temperatures reaching 34C or higher on Monday and Tuesday as the ongoing heatwave persists. The Met Office has stated that temperatures could reach as high as 35C on both days, potentially marking the hottest May days on record, surpassing the current record of 32.8C.

Yesterday saw the highest temperatures of the year so far, with temperatures exceeding 30C for the first time in 2026. Today is anticipated to be even hotter, with southern regions possibly reaching highs of 32C. It is expected that the yearly temperature record will be broken on Monday and Tuesday as well.

According to the UKV weather model, temperatures are projected to rise to 34C on Monday, extending as far north as Lincolnshire, while central and southern England will experience temperatures in the low-30s. The weather maps also indicate the possibility of reaching 35C in London and the southwest on Tuesday, with a total of 18 counties in England likely to see temperatures at 34C or above.

The latest forecast from the Met Office suggests that temperatures will continue to climb to 28C or higher at least until Thursday. A formal heatwave is declared when temperatures meet or exceed the heatwave threshold, which ranges from 25C to 28C depending on the county, for three consecutive days.

Looking ahead, warm temperatures are expected to persist as we move into June. The Met Office’s forecast for May 28 to June 6 predicts fine weather and light winds for most areas, with high pressure prevailing across the UK. While there may be occasional showers and thunder in the west, temperatures are likely to remain warm or very warm inland, though cooler near coastal areas, especially with onshore breezes.

As we transition into June, there may be more cloud cover and occasional rain showers, interspersed with warm and dry weather periods.
